Bhil culture is vibrantly depicted in the art that decorates their homes. The Bhils, like the Gonds and Santhals indigenous people of India inhabiting the central and north western regions of the country. Firm outlines filled by flat colouration is the usual mode in a lot of Indian folk and tribal art. Bhil painting however is distinguished by a technique akin to the aboriginal art from Africa and Australia. The texture is created by fine dabs of paint made from vegetables and earth colours. Artist: Jambu Singad Thirty four year old Jambu left his native Jhabua many years ago to settle in Bhopal. He learnt to paint from his mother at a young age. It is a pleasure to interact with Jambu - the city has not killed his tribal spirit or his zest for life! Craft -Acrylic on paper
