The Gonds are a tribe from central India. Their art can be traced back to more than 2000 years. The speciality of Gond paintings lie in the simple yet imaginative representation of the day-to-day lives of rural people. The paintings capture nature, festivals and folklore in vivid colours and dramatic forms. Gond paintings were traditionally painted on walls by women using natural colours. Now Gond paintings are also done on paper and canvas with a mix of natural and commercial colours. Artist : Kailash pradhan Proud and ambitious - thirty four year old Kailash, had almost sacrificed his talent as an artist. Even though he had trained under his mother he chose to leave his village in search of a better and secure life. He took up a job as a computer operator in Bhopal. It was a chance meeting that brought him back to painting.
