Description
The Chettinad saree, or Kandangi, woven in Karaikudi by Karnataka weavers who migrated 500 years ago. They were invited by the king to karaikudi to weave coarse cotton because earlier they wove only fine cotton and silk. Bold in color, with checks and stripes, it reflected their vibrant culture. Made of thick cotton, it suited the hot climate and daily wear. Inspired by temples and tradition, each saree carried a story. It’s said a Madurai queen once admired it at a Chettiar wedding. Length 5.70 meters and width 45 inches with two distinctive pallus can be worn on both the sides no need of fall and beading. Incase you want to make a blouse one of the pallus can be used (since the length of saree is made accordingly). Dyed with ecofriendly dyes no need of ironing or starching wash (hand wash) and wear saree (Zero Maintenance).
