Majid Khatri - Ajrakh


UNESCO Awardee Majid Khatri belongs from the Khatri Community of Kutch Gujrat. He is known for his innovative and excellent designs, pattern, exquisite craftsmanship and high quality with natural dyes in Ajrakh craft. Ajrakh is a traditional vegetable dyeing and resist block-printing technique on cloth. The history of the Ajrakh can be traced back to the civilizations of the Indus Valley that existed around 2500 BC-1500 BC. The Khatri community of Kutch is engaged in this craft since many centuries and the craft technique is being transferred from father to son.
