The city of Kolhapur, once an important part of the Maratha Empire, is today considered to be the richest district in the country, with a rich and varied heritage that spans centuries. Apart from the world renowned Kolhapuri Chappals, the city is also well known for its Silver crafting industry, that is a source of employment for a number of artisans. The process for the crafting of this stunning Jewelry starts with the procurement of raw silver of bricks, that are melted and alloyed only after a complete and thorough purity check is conducted on it. This alloy is then pressed into flat and thick wires and further refined to thinner wires depending on the requirements. The beads and small pieces of Jewelry are further crafted by the women artisans in a precise and painstaking process.
